The death of Marcus Aurelius led to bad times within the Roman Empire. One of these problems was the problem of inflation. Since precious metals were running scarce, Romans started mixing the valuable metals with cheap, common ones. This lowered the value of money causing prices to go sky-rocketing high, that poor citizens couldn't afford.
